Transparent Adjudicator's Statement
Summary of Claim
Sylvain Sebastian Santamaria submitted a claim for the fastest marathon distance walked while carrying a fixed 50 kg load. The attempt took place on a 400 m athletics track in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, with the carried load consisting of a weighted vest and kettlebells. The submitted evidence indicated that Santamaria completed at least the official marathon distance of 42.195 km within a verified elapsed time of 10 hours, 58 minutes, 00 seconds.
Evidence Submitted
Atlas World Records reviewed submitted video evidence of the attempt, including expanded video documentation showing the athlete during the event, along with Facebook Live/supporting public video materials. The evidence package also included pre-attempt and post-attempt weigh-in documentation, lap-counting log photographs, witness materials, event details, and written correspondence confirming the claimed time, distance, location, load, and record category. The lap-counting log documented completion beyond the official marathon distance, with lap 106 representing 42.400 km on a 400 m track.
Comparative and Cross-Archive Benchmark Review
Atlas World Records reviewed publicly available record archives and references across major world record organizations to determine whether a directly comparable certified record category was publicly documented. No publicly available record was identified that matched the specific combined criteria of fastest marathon distance walked while carrying a fixed 50 kg load. Based on that review, Atlas treated the claim as a new or sufficiently distinct record category requiring direct evidence-based adjudication.
Verification Methodology
Atlas verified the attempt by reviewing the claimed record structure, the location and track length, the carried-load requirement, timing evidence, lap-counting documentation, and supporting witness and video materials. The official marathon distance was treated as 42.195 km. Because the attempt took place on a 400 m track, Atlas reviewed the lap log to confirm that the completed distance exceeded the marathon threshold. The submitted lap record showed completion through lap 106, equivalent to 42.400 km, which exceeds the official marathon distance. The verified time of 10 hours, 58 minutes, 00 seconds was accepted as a conservative completion time based on the submitted timing and lap documentation.
Adjudication Findings
Atlas finds that the evidence submitted was sufficient to verify that Sylvain Sebastian Santamaria completed at least 42.195 km while carrying a fixed load of at least 50 kg. The submitted lap-counting materials, video evidence, weigh-in documentation, and witness materials collectively support the claimed achievement. The certified time of 10 hours, 58 minutes, 00 seconds is accepted as the official record metric for the category.
Conclusion
Atlas World Records certifies Sylvain Sebastian Santamaria as the holder of the record for the Fastest Marathon Distance Walked While Carrying a Fixed 50 kg Load. The verified record stands at 10 hours, 58 minutes, 00 seconds, achieved on 20 June 2026 in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, Canada.
