The Arithmetic of Devotion

For more than five years, Garrett Greiner pursued a goal that most athletes would never seriously consider.

On December 29, 2025, in Keota, Iowa, Greiner completed 2,403 muscle-ups in approximately 18 hours, establishing a new world record for Most Muscle-Ups in 24 Hours. The achievement was the culmination of a training journey that included more than 150,000 muscle-ups performed over the course of several years.

For Greiner, however, the record was never simply about accumulating repetitions.

"I am naturally drawn toward challenge, toward the impossible," he explained. "Deep in my heart, I long for it. It is like an old friend, one whom I miss dearly."

That attraction to seemingly impossible goals became the foundation for a years-long pursuit requiring extraordinary consistency, physical resilience, and mental endurance. While many world records are measured in hours or days, Greiner's record was built across half a decade of preparation.

The Quilt of Purpose

He describes his motivation as a collection of many influences rather than a single driving force.

"Everyone wants to know your one reason for doing something," he said. "But reasons and purpose are like a quilt. A beautiful quilt has many pieces woven together, and this record is no different."

Among those influences is Greiner's Christian faith, which he credits as a central source of strength throughout the process.

"My faith was definitely something that sustained me through the challenges and years of training," he said.

The final total of 2,403 muscle-ups was not chosen at random. Greiner selected the number to honor the 2,403 Americans who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

By the time he completed his final repetition, Greiner had not only achieved the target he had envisioned for years, but had also transformed a personal athletic challenge into a tribute to American sacrifice and service.

Beyond the Record

Yet Greiner views this accomplishment not as a finish line, but as the beginning of something larger.

He has announced plans to attempt to break his own world record during the 2026 Iowa State Fair. The event will be open to the public and will coincide with America's 250th birthday celebrations. In addition to pursuing a new muscle-up benchmark, Greiner hopes to raise $50 million within 24 hours for a veterans charity, a fundraising effort he believes could itself establish a world record.

"I hope we can help the men and women that sacrifice so much for our country," he said.

Whether measured by the 2,403 repetitions completed in a single day or the more than 150,000 repetitions that came before them, Greiner's achievement stands as a testament to long-term commitment, unwavering purpose, and the pursuit of goals that many would consider beyond reach.

Atlas World Records has officially verified Garrett Greiner's achievement of 2,403 muscle-ups, establishing the world record for Most Muscle-Ups in 24 Hours.
